Ellen Houlihan and Herbert Middleton Moxon
Herbert Middleton Moxon was born 04 May 1872 in Bankstown (Liverpool)   [Ref no
11695/1872] son of
Joshua Middleton Moxon and Louisa Mary Wilkinson

Ellen Wholohan*  daughter of William Houlihan and Alice Dowling was born 17th
March,1875 [ref 10118/1875] at Coolah Creek in the district of Coonabarabran. Present at
the birth was Catherine Connolly.

Ellen had two children out of wedlock:

William Francis Houlihan born 22nd October 1891 at 158 Cumberland Street, Sydney.
Ellen, aged 17 [although she was in fact 16 years and 7months] of the same address, was the
informant. Present at the birth was Mrs McDonald.  William died on 29th February 1892
aged 5 months at 158 Cumberland Street, Sydney which was Ellen's residence at the time.
Cause of death was gastro enteritis. Length of illness was 1 week.  William was buried on 1st
March 1892 in the Roman Catholic Cemetery at Rookwood SEC*M1*13PUB**670 as William
T Houlohan aged 5 months.

Theresa Alice Houlihan, born 10th February 1894, at Isabella Street, Waverley, Ellen aged
19 of the same address was the informant. Present at the birth was Mrs Wells, nurse.
Theresa died on 6th October 1896 aged 2 years and 8 months at the Children's Hospital
Glebe.  Cause of death was diphtheria and asphyxia. Length of illness was 5 days. She is
buried in the Roman Catholic cemetery at Waverley. Ellen's address at the time is Cowper
Street, Waverley.

Marriage: Ellen Lena Houlihan* married Herbert Middleton Moxon on 14 October 1896 at
The Study, 48 Elizabeth St, Sydney according to the Independent Baptist rites. [Ref no
6464/1896] Ellen's occupation is recorded as domestic and her residence is Waverley.
Herbert is a boilermaker from Bankstown. Witnesses were V F Vincent and Mary Payens.

Ellen and Herbert had the following Children:

Rupert H [Herbert?] Moxon, born 20th April 1899 Balmain North [ref 18786/1899] died
1899 Balmain North [ref 12132/1899] recorded as Moxom

Joshua M [Middleton?] Moxon, born 1903 Balmain South [ref 21287/1903] died 1904,
Balmain South ref [598/1904]

Olive Margaret Moxon born 1908, Balmain, died in Redfern on 22nd October 1941 [ref
22822/1941] It appears that Olive never married. The 1930 Electoral Roll lists her as residing
with her father in Belmont Street, Merrylands. Her occupation is home duties.

Occupations: Family oral tradition says that 'Bert' Moxon is said to have worked on the
building of the Maitland and Hawksbury River bridges. The 1930 Electoral Roll  describes
him as a boilermaker.

Death: Ellen Lena Moxon died 27th August 1909. She was aged 34 and resided at Warwick
Farm. Cause of death was miscarriage, haemorrhage and syncope [possibly referring to low
blood pressure or slow or irregular heart rate]Length of illness is given as 2 months [ref
9827]  She is buried in the Roman Catholic Cemetery Liverpool. NOTE: at the time of the last
update she did not appear on the RC Cemeteries website search function for Liverpool.

Second Marriage: Herbert married Lydia May Bailey at Petersham in 1915. It appears they
had no children.

Divorce: The SMH dated 11th April 1930 reports that Herbert Middleton Moxon had
petitioned for a decree for restitution of conjugal rights to be directed to Lydia May Moxon
formerly Bailey.  In reply, Lydia denied she had remained away from the petitioner [Herbert]
without just cause. She alleged he had been guilty of cruelty towards her and asked for a
judicial separation on that ground. The petition was dismissed and Herbert ordered to pay
the costs.

Death: Herbert died on 25 May 1934 in Merrylands  NSW [Ref 8263] and was buried 26th
May at St Lukes Church of England Cemetery, Liverpool
