Ellen Doyle
was born about 1801 according to details given at the time of her death.

Marriage: William MaGrath and Ellen Doyle were married on 17th February 1813 at Drom,
Tipperary. Witnesses were Michael Ryan and Mrs Ryan.


John Magrath
[sic] baptised 20th March 1816, at Clonoulty father William Magrath a gardener
of Marlow. Sponsors Michael Meagher and Catherine Dwyer. Does not appear to have come to

Margaret Magrath baptised June 1818, Clonoulty, daughter of William Magrath, a gardener of
Marlow and Ellen Doyle. Sponsors Judith Maher and Larry McGrath.
Margaret McGrath:
mentioned in a newspaper report dated 8th Jaunuary 1857 [Maitland Mercury] as sister of
Honorah Maher.

Nano/Hannah/Honorah McGrath, no baptism found was probably the first member of this
family to arrive in
Australia aged 20 [DOB 1821]aboard the Livingston in 1841.
Nano/Hannah/Hanorah married
Richard Maher.

Mary/Margaret Magrath baptised 11th May 1824 at Thurles [Marg?y?] This may be a
daughter named Mary or a second daughter Margaret abbreviated. NOTE: Indexed as Mono at
FMP but it is not Nano.
Came to Australia before 1854 according to her mother's staement at
time of immigration.

Patrick McGrath baptised 12th March 1827 Thurles sponsors Steven Doyle and Bridget
Patrick McGrath, arrived in Australia in 1860 aboard the Hannah More, his deposit
being paid by Nano's husband
Richard Maher.

Michael McGrath baptised 26th May 1830, Thurles, son of William McGrath and Ellen Doyle.
Sponsors Steven Brien and Margaret Joyce.  Dos not appear to have come to NSW.

Ellen McGrath [junior] Possible baptism 14th July 1833 daughter of William McGrath and
Ellen Doyle. Sponors Patrick Ryan and Bridget Shaunessy. Arrived in
Australia on the David
in 1854 aged 18 [DOB 1836]  Sisters Mary and Nano are in the colony.  Deposit paid by
Daniel Maher
brother of Richard Maher. Married Michael Dwyer in 1855 ref 509/1855

William McGrath, baptised about 1833 according to his shipping record but no baptism record
found. Arrived
in Australia on the Ben Nevis in 1854 aged 22, with mother Ellen. William
McGrath junior was regularly in gaol for drunken behaviour [Trove] He was sent to
Darlinghurst Asylum in 1884 by a doctors order.
Note: Could he be Michael above who is not
listed on mother Ellen's death certificate?

Immigration: Mother Ellen McGrath aged 46 [DOB 1808 - did she lie about her age?] and son
William McGrath aged 21 ]DOB 1833] arrived on the Ben Nevis in 1854. They state that Nano
and Mary are already in the colony. I have not been able to find Mary as yet.

Death: Ellen senior died 11th May 1867 [ref  6163/1867  MCGRATH  ELLEN  UNKNOWN
] Cause of death Bronchitis. Her children listed on her
death certificate are Honorah aged 48, Mary 46, John 44, Patrick 42, Margaret 40, William 38,
Ellen 36.
