Patrick Houlihan and Margaret Cavanagh

My great x 3 grandparents

Patrick Houlihan may have been born about 1810 according to his possible death record. A
possible baptism is on 22nd March 1809 at Fedamore, son of
Elly[sic] Elias Houlihan and
Catherine Cusack, sponsors Martin Hourigan and Margaret Collins [Note: This entry is very
faint in parish registers - transcription from Roots Ireland]  Patrick is recorded as being a
farmer on daughter Ellen's marriage certificate. Patrick appears to have had a sister Ellen
Houlihan who married Patrick Droney. Their daughter
Mary Droney came to Australia with
her cousin
William Houlihan [see below] in 1865 and gives her parents as Patrick Droney
and Ellen Houlihan.

Margaret Cavanagh: No details to date but she is named at the time of their children's
baptisms. A possible baptism is Margaret Cavanagh baptised  20th February 1809 St
Michael's, Limerick City,  daughter of James Cavanagh and Mary McDermott, sponsors
Patrick Monk and Mary O'Loghlin [OKoghlin?]

Marriage: before 1827 - still researching

Children: as per Fedamore Parish Baptisms - latinised [NLI] and St Michael baptisms per IFHF

Patrick Houlihan baptised 9th March 1827 St Michael's Limerick, sponsons John Kelly and
Bridget Quinn. Married
Bridget Madden, 21st February 1855 Fedamore, witnesses James
Blake and Johanna Sweeney.  
 I have multiple DNA links to Patrick and Bridget through
their children.

Maria [Mary] Houlihan baptised 10th October 1829 Fedamore daughter of Patrick Houlihan
and Margaret Cavanagh. Sponsors Patrick Meehan and Catherine Griffin. [Indexed as
Houlahay at FMP] Mary appears to be one of the sponsors when brother William's daughter
Mary is baptised.

Ellen Houlihan baptised 23rd June 1832 Fedamore daughter of Patrick Houlihan and
Margaret Cavanagh. Sponsors Timothy and Ann Keogh.
Came to Australia in 1863.

Thomas Holohan
baptised 23rd December 1834  St Michaels Limerick Patrick Houlihan and
Margaret Kavanagh [from IFHF transcript] Viewed, sponsor Mary Duggan, possibly at Lying
In Hospital. The Lying In Hospital later known as Bedford Row Lying In Hospital was
founded in 1812 and originally located in Nelson Street [now known as Parnell Street] It was
moved in 1868 to Bedford Row.

William Houlihan  baptised 7th March 1838 Fedamore as Guillimus son of Patrick Houlihan
and Margaret Cavanagh; Witnesses Jacob [James] Droney, Maria Carter.

in January 1865

Michael Houlihan baptised 5th March 1843 Fedamore son of Patricus Houlihan and
Margaret Cavanagh. Witnesses Michael Maloney and Cath ?Droney?

Godparents/Sponsors: Patrick and Margaret were godparents for Catherine Droney
daughter of
Jacob [James] Droney and Margaret Ryan baptised at Fedamore 17th October
1831. Also
Patrick Houlihan their grandson baptised 3rd November 1861 [son of Patrick
Houlihan junior

Possible Death: Patrick Houlihan aged 58 died Limerick Reg Disctrict 1868. Patrick
Houlihan of Inch St Lawrence [just north of Ballybricken] a married labourer died 15th April
1868 aged 58. Cause of death cancer which he had suffered from for 4 months. Informant
was Mary Houlihan [perhaps daugher Maria?]

Griffiths valuation records Patrick Hoolahan [sic] at Cloghadoolarty North, Parish of
Fedamore Co Limerick. Cloghadoolarty North is about 2 miles from Fedamore Village.
Patrick leased a house from Thomas Barry worth 13 shillings. Map Reference 5 F -
see below

Thomas Barry:  In 1849 Thomas Barry owned the garden beside the house Patrick rented
for 2 pounds at will. Barry stated that the garden was a commonage that his great
grandfather held 200 years ago and never paid any rent. He now considers himself the
rightful owner. He also owned another 6 houses in the village.
