Margaret Ann Higgins and James Ryan
Margaret Ann [Maud] Higgins, born 2nd October 1871 at
Devonshire Street, West Maitland, daughter of
Higgins and Ann Maher.  Present at the birth were Mary
Maher [probably Ann's mother] and Ellen Doyle.

James Ryan was born about 1857 according to his death
notice. A possible baptism is Ref V18552654 72/1855 to
James Ryan and Eliza/Elizabeth Connelly

The 1872 Greville's Post Office directory shows James
Ryan, farmer, Dunmore.

The 1885 Parlimentary return of Landholders in the
Maitland area shows James Ryan at Dunmore.

Marriage: Margaret married James on 27th August 1889
at the Roman Catholic Church East Maitland.  James was
a farmer residing at Dunmore. Margaret was a
Housekeeper residing at Dunmore. The witnesses were
Timothy Ryan [James brother] and Mary A Guilfoyle
nee Soorley, Margaret's cousin. Mary was also the witness
when Margaret's parents married. James Norton Brooks,
esq. PM, Guardian of Minors gave his consent as Margaret
was under 21 years of age. This would suggest that father
Thomas Higgins was either dead or unable to give his
consent. James Ryan as about 32.

Bat. James was a clerk and  Cof E.

Thomas B[Bede?] 'Tom' Ryan born Morpeth 1893 ref
23111/1893. Died in Redfern in 1955. Buried 13th
December 1955 at Rookwood in a grave adjoining his

Frank James Ryan born Morpeth 1895 ref 3141/1895
Served in WW1 30th Bat. Frank was a plasterer and
Roman Catholic. The SMH reports he died in Melbourne
on 5th September 1930.
Mary Florence 'Flo' Ryan born 1897 Morpeth ref
4921/1897. Married Thomas A F Hay Petersham 1921.

John K Ryan born Morpeth 1898 ref 5048/1898 died
Morpeth 1898 ref 2320/1898

Anne E Ryan 'Annie'/Nan born Morpeth 1900 ref 14408.
Married Jerome T Kiely at Petersham in 1922

Beatrice Maud 'Beat' Ryan born 1901 Morpeth Ref
33547/1901. Married 1) Raymond Anthony O'Brien in
1943 and 2) Owen Patrick Ryan in 1947.

The 1930 electoral roll shows Maud [as Maud Ryan] residing at 63 Grosvenor Crescent
Summerhill with daughters Beatrice Maud [dressmaker] and Margaret Ellen [home duties]

The 1936 electoral roll shows Maud [as Maud Margaret Ann Ryan] residing at 68 Chandros
Street, Ashfield with daughter Beatrice [a dressmaker] and son Harry a truck driver

Deaths: James, son of James and Elizabeth, aged 73, late of Largs died on 6th August 1928
at his residence 63 Grosvenor Crescent, Summer Hill [SMH]

Maud died at Ashfield in 1951 [ref 10291] and was buried on 31st May 1951 at Rookwood
with husband James Ryan.
