Historically a part of Lancashire, the Parish of Deane was one of four parishes within the hundred of Salford and covered roughly half of the present Metropolitan Borough of Bolton. Benjamin Higson: Possible baptism Benjamin Hickson [sic], son of James Hickson [sic] of Middle Hulton [no mother mentioned] baptised 19th September 1767 at St Mary, Deane, Lancashire [about 2 miles from Bolton] Benjamin was a weaver.
NOTE: Not Benjamin Higson baptised at St Peter, Bolton Le Moors 2nd February 1777, parents Peter and Ellen. This child died 10th April 1778.
I suspect that Benjamin was married twice, based on the similarities of his signature.
First Marriage: Benjamin Higson, bachelor of this parish married Judith Grundy spinster of Bolton parish on 2nd January 1794 at St Mary, Deane. Benjamin signed and Judith made her mark. Witnesses were James Ryley [a clerk of the parish] and Roger Welch [Walch?]
Judith Grundy: Possible baptism on 21st February 1773 at St Peter Bolton le Moors, daughter of Arthur and Betty Grundy of LL [Little Lever?]
