William Fletcher was born about 1843 in Edinburgh, Scotland, son of William Fletcher and
Margaret Wilson
according to his marriage certificate. William's occupations are recorded as;
overseer 1879, cabman 1880, van-man 1891 and labourer 1884 and 1902

Mary Ross, was born Ross shire, Scotland, daughter of James Ross [a farmer] and Mary
about 1838 according to various sources. It appears that William and Mary never
married however they give the date of 9th June 1867 at Geelong Presbyterian Church, Victoria
at the time of their daughter Mary's birth. This date is actually
for Mary Ross's first marriage to
Finlay McKinnon.
 Mary had previously been married to Finlay McKinnon, a widower on 9th
June 1867.
Since her first husband was still living, William and Mary would have been unable
to marry.

Mary Jane Fletcher born Echuca 1874 ref 8585, died 1877 Echuca aged 2 ref 1203

William Fletcher born about 1876. Recorded as dead on sister Mary's birth cert in 1879.
However he is shown as living aged 4 on mother Mary's death certificate in 1880.

1879/80 according to details from his married certificate ref 1030 to Eva Schofield on 7th
January 1904 at Bendigo. William was a horse trainer. William died in 1958 and is buried in
White Hills cemetery. His age at the time of his birth is 82, making his birth date 1876

Mary Fletcher born 14th February 1879 Sherwood, District of Cranbourne Vic [ref 1845] Also
known as Mary Magdalene Josephine Fletcher she married
Andrew Silvester Doyle at St
Kilian's Catholic Church Bendigo on 22nd October 1902 [ref 7121] Mary's parents are not
named on her marriage certificate. One of the witnesses is William Fletcher, her brother.
According to the Victorian Electoral Rolls, Andrew was a carter and traveller. Half brother
Robert Fletcher aka Evans Robert makes mention of a sister Mrs M Doyle of White Hills,
Bendigo Victoria.

Death Mary died on 21st August 1880 at junction of Clifton and Anderson Streets Euroa. Her
age is recorded as 38 however other records suggest she was 32  [ref7002] Cause of death was
prolonged labour from malposition of the child and exhaustion lasting 5 days.  Mary was buried
in the Euroa cemetery by a Presbyterian Minister. William is the informant and gives his
address as Shingle Hut Miepoll. Mary had spent 19 years in Victoria, making the date of her
arrival about 1861.

Second Marriage: To Eliza Mary White

Eliza Mary White was born 25th September 1842 baptised 14th July 1843 St James,
Melbourne, [Collingwood] 1843 [ref 13353] daughter of
Henry John White and Jane Allen
Boyd.  Father a gentleman of Collingwood.

Marriage: William and Eliza were married on 12th October 1880 at Moor Street, Fitzroy
according to the rites of the free Church of England. The witnesses were James Bartlett and
Mary Hackman[?] who both made their mark rather than signed. William reportedly had three
living children.  At the time of their marriage, William was a cab driver and Eliza was a house
keeper. They both give their address as Budd Street Collingwood, suggesting that either Eliza
had been working as William's housekeeper prior to their marriage or they were already living

William and Eliza had at least two children:

George Thomas Fletcher born Fitzroy 1881 [ref 16446]. Other possible aliases George William
Fletcher [1900, theft of a watch] and Thomas Jones [Qld, 1905, theft of a watch, admitted to
being George William Fletcher, changed his name when his mother remarried] Brother Robert
records him as George Evans when he enlists in WW1

Robert Charles Fletcher born 25th January 1884 Tupra Station, Hay, NSW.  Robert later used
the alias
Robert Evans.

William Fletcher aged 48 died on 5th June 1891 at Narrandera [ref 9989 1891] His occupation
is recorded as being a van-man and he had been married twice with 2 sons  living from his first
marriage and 2 sons and one daughter from his second. His place of birth is given as England
however this is probably an error. Informant was CWW Ireland a hospital wardsman of
Narrandera. Cause of death was Uraemia [renal failure] which he had suffered for 4 days. He
was buried on 5th June in the Narrandera cemetery by D Fenwick, presbyterian minster.
Witnesses were James Moulton and J O Thomas. William had spent 44 years in the colony
making his arrival about 1847

Eliza Mary Fletcher died 29th January 1900 at Narrandera. Her death is recorded under
William Fletcher and Eliza Mary White
