Mary Droney was about 1845 in Limerick according to details given at the time of her
marriage
.  Her parents are recorded as being Patrick Droney and Ellen Houlihan. Her earlier
shipping records record her as being was born about 1840 daughter of
Pat[rick] and Mary.  
Mary came to Australia in 1865 aboard the St Hilda with her cousin
William Houlihan. Her
deposit was paid for by
her cousin Ellen Houlihan, William's sister, who had arrived a year
earlier
. Mary is described as being 25 years old, a dairymaid whose native place is Fedamore.
She is Roman Catholic and cannot read or write. Her parents are recorded as deceased.

John Canham was born in 1832 in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, son of William Canham and
Sarah Taylor.
He had an older brother William born 1830. By the 1841 census, both John and
William are in the Cambridgeshire work house.  The 1851 census shows John and William
residing with Thomas and Emma Foreman. John is an apprentice blacksmith. William is a
journeyman tailor.  John came to Australia aboard the Bengal, arriving in February 1855. The
ships indent records John as being Roman Catholic and being able to read and write. His
occupation is Engine Smith. His parents are recorded as being deceased.
