Sarah Jane Campton
The following information and photos are kindly supplied by Norma Rainey, Great Grandaughter of Alfred
and Sarah
Alfred Henry Betts was born in Brentwood, Essex, England, 28 March 1849, son of
Benjamin Henry Betts and Mary Ann Adams.  Alfred died April 1928 in Eaglehawk,
Victoria, at 79 years of age.  His body was interred April 1928 in Eaglehawk Cemetery,
Eaglehawk.  To read his obituary see below.

He married
Sarah Jane Campton in Raglan Street, Emerald Hill (South Melbourne), 15th
September 1870.  Sarah was born 9 October 1850.  Sarah was the daughter of James
Campton and Elizabeth Jackson.  Sarah died 14 August 1939 in Eaglehawk Victoria, at 88
years of age.  Her body was interred August 1939 in Eaglehawk, Victoria, Eaglehawk.

Alfred Henry Betts and Sarah Jane Campton had the following family:

Emily Ada Elizabeth Anne Betts
born, 26 June 1871. Married John Bodilly, 1889, South

Harriet Maud Mary Betts born, 7 November 1873. Married Richard Edyvean Sampson,
1893, California Gully.

Florance Gertrude Ethel Betts born, 8 May 1876. Married William John Bone, California
Gully, 1898

Mabel Ernestine Betts born, 1878; died Bendigo 1898. Her death may have been related to
the birth of her daughter, also named Mabel, who was born and died in 1898.

Edith Jane, born 1881. There is some confusion in the records for Edith Jane. One records
shows Edith Jane, died 1882, aged 18 months, Eaglehawk daughter of
Joseph Betts and
Sarah Jane Campton. There is also a marriage entry for her in 1899; Edith Jane Betts
married William Francis Webb. As her father's obituary mentions a daughter 'Mrs W Webb' it
would appear that Edith Jane was alive and well. It is possible that Alfred and Sarah had two
daughters named Edith Jane, and I have only been able to find the birth registration for one.

Alfred Edward Betts born 3 September 1883. See below for more information

Henry Hector Betts born, 14 April 1886. Married (1) Alice Edwards, 1906. She died 1907.
Married (2)
Catherine Perry, 1909

Jessie Betts, [female] born 1889; died 1889.

Ernest George Betts, born 1890; died 1897, Eaglehawk

Olgar Benjamin Betts, born 1894, married Ivy May Bonython, 1914

Obituary (probably published in Bendigo Advertiser) found pasted in workbook
belonging to his son, Alfred Edward Betts.  No date attached, but presumably shortly
after his death in 1928
