James Baxter and Susan Buckey  before his
parents were married. His birth appears to be cross indexed under Baxter with the same
reference number. James was a hairdresser, as was his father.

Emily Appelbee [sic] was born 6th December 1866 and baptised 24th February 1867 at All
Souls, Marylebone, Middlesex daughter of
John Applebee and Elizabeth Nichols.

Marriage: James, a hairdresser of 61 West India Dock Road married Emily of 23 Rutland Street
on 24th October 1887 at St Phillips Church, Stepney. Parents were James Baxter a hairdresser
and John Appelbee [sic] deceased. Witnesses were Ellen B***therton and Charles Musgrave
[who appears to be a clerk of the church as he witnessed other marriages]

Their Children were:

born 21st February 1888 , Poplar,  baptised 19th March 1888, St Peter,
Garford Road, Limehouse.[a] father James, a hairdresser from 61 West India Dock

Emily Beatrice Baxter born March q 1892, West Ham registration District vol 4a page 35 -
baptised 3rd August 1893, St Peter, Limehouse. Father James a hairdresser of 61 West India
Dock Road.

Charles [Charlie] Baxter baptised 24th October 1895 at St Peter Limehouse, father
hairdresser, abode 10 Highgate Hill.

Jessie Hilda Baxter baptised 1st November 1903, at ST Mary Magdalene and St Pancras,
Camden, father hairdresser, abode 39 William Street.

Lilian Winifred Baxter born June quarter 1906, St Pancras Vol 1b  page 25 [middle name not
fully transcribed]  

Deaths: Emily died December quarter 1910 at St Pancras.

The 1881 census shows James aged 17, single, hairdresser living at 20 [Wellington Park?]

The 1891 census shows James [born Harrow] , a hairdresser aged 27, as being unmarried and
living at 62 West India Street, Poplar. There is no sign of wife Emily or son James. They are not
at the Highgate Hill address [checked census]

The 1901 census shows James, a Hairdresser, and Emily living at 10 Highgate Hill, Islington,
London. Daughter Emily aged 9 and sons James aged 13 and Charlie aged 6 are also at the
address. Emily aged 34 gives her place of birth as Castle Street.

Death: Emily Baxter aged 44 died December Quarter 1910 at Pancras registration district.

1911 Census shows James, a widower, assistant hairdresser, residing at 271 High Street, St
Pancras with daughter Emily, 19, son Charles, 16, an assistant hairdresser, and daughters
Jessie 7 and Lilian 4. The residence had two rooms.
